Let's start with answering some questions for those who aren't quite sure what an Old Fashioned truly is.  First off, it is a Wisconsin staple, and identifier if you're ever on travel.  Recently, I traveled to Orlando, Florida for an annual conference and industry training.  I asked the hotel bartender for an Old Fashioned Sweet, and they'll respond with, "Which part of Wisconsin are you from?"  Befuddled, I then realized I just asked for a traditional Wisconsin drink, and responded with, "The northern portion of the state", he then replied with, "So you want it muddle and topped with sprite."  

What is an Old Fashioned?

an Old Fashioned, is an Old Fashioned Cocktail, where brandy is used as the base spirit. The Old Fashioned is particularly popular in the state of Wisconsin.

To make an Old Fashioned, you can follow a similar process as the traditional Old Fashioned
Here's how you can prepare a Brandy Old Fashioned:

Ingredients:

• 2 oz (60 ml) brandy
• 1 sugar cube or 1/2 teaspoon of sugar (some variations use simple syrup)
• 2-3 dashes of Angostura bitters
• Orange slice
• Maraschino cherry
• Club soda (optional)
• Ice

Muddle:
In an Old Fashioned glass, place the sugar cube, Angostura bitters, and a splash of water. Muddle these ingredients together to dissolve the sugar.

Add Brandy:
Add the brandy to the glass.

Add Fruit and Ice:
Add an orange slice and a maraschino cherry to the glass. Some variations also include a splash of club soda at this stage, although this is optional. Fill the glass with ice cubes.

Stir:
Stir gently to mix the ingredients.

Garnish:
Garnish with an additional orange slice and a maraschino cherry.

The Brandy Old Fashioned is a slightly sweeter and fruitier version of the classic Old Fashioned, thanks to the addition of orange and cherry. It's a beloved variation, especially in Wisconsin, where it has become a regional specialty.
